Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

They say memories are golden,
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

When I am dead,
Cry for me a little.
Think of me sometimes,
But not too much.
It is not good for you
Or your wife or your husband
Or your children
To allow your thoughts to dwell
Too long on the dead.
Think of me now and again
As I was in life
At some moment which is pleasant to recall,
But not for long.
Leave me in peace
As I shall leave you, too, in peace.
While you live,
Let your thoughts be with the living.

Baroness passed away peacefully on her 2nd day after birth. This puppy was our green stained meconium puppy who was poorly situated in Whisper's uterus and held up the birthing process for all. When the meconium was seen discharged by Whisper, Whisper was rushed in for a C-section, knowing that there was a puppy in distress. the puppy had ruptured her placental sac and the meconium was from her being in distress. Whisper had split or ruptured her uterus linearly trying to birth the puppy.
Bareness was born flat, as they would say, and they had to work on her to get her to breathe. We thought all was OK and initially she was nursing well. After about 8 hours it was noted that she was not urinating, not pooping and she had decreased eating. She then started vomiting and aspirated the gastric contents into her lungs. Dave gave her fluids subcutaneously but she still refused to eat.
Baroness saved her mother's life and uterus and we are forever thankful for her letting us know by the meconium discharge otherwise things could have turned out quite differently.
We snuggled her a few times to let her know that she was loved and that she would be missed. We wished her a safe passage to the Rainbow Bridge where we will meet again.
Baroness is our first loss for our Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs. She was buried with other Guardian Angles that have gone before her from our Mastiff family.
